How are creators taxed in Kenya?

To register for a KRA PIN as an individual you open the iTax portal, choose taxpayer type Individual and the Online Form, then complete three sections: basic information, obligation details and source-of-income details.

Income tax applies to all income of a person, resident or not, that accrued in or was derived from Kenya. Every individual with a KRA PIN must file a return each year, even with no income (a NIL return), between 1 January and 30 June of the following year, online through iTax.

Turnover Tax applies to businesses with gross turnover above KSh 1,000,000 and up to KSh 25,000,000 a year. KRA states the rate is 1.5% of gross sales from 1 July 2023 under the Finance Act 2023.
